Tallinn’s atmospheric Christmas market opens at Town Hall Square

Tallinn’s fabulously beautiful Christmas Market will once again bring light and joy to the dark season. In keeping with a 580-year-old tradition, a 15-metre Christmas tree will stand in the middle of the Town Hall Square.

The lights on Christmas tree will be switched on at the festive opening of the Christmas Market on Friday 22.11.2024 at 18.00. The market will be open every day from 10.00 to 20.00 until 27th of December 2024. Hot drinks will be available until a little later on weekends, until 10pm.

Estonian handicrafts, traditional Christmas treats and a programme to get you in the Christmas spirit

This year, the market will once again be full of stalls selling Estonian handicrafts, hot mulled wine, delicious and festive mince pies and lots of lovely gift ideas for your Christmas gift bag. The Christmas market also offers a wide variety of Christmas entertainment. Carols and other performances are especially enjoyed at weekends.

The most anticipated guest of the season, Santa Claus, arrives on the first day of Advent to delight children and adults alike from then on. The Tallinn Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe. In 2019, the Tallinn Christmas Market was selected as the best Christmas market in Europe. 

Christmas lovers should visit the Town Hall Square more than once to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, gingerbread, fresh cinnamon rolls, hot drinks, traditional Estonian Christmas treats such as blood sausage and sauerkraut, and festive performances. If you can’t make it before Christmas, you can still visit the market in the days after Christmas and after the New Year celebrations. . 

From the end of November until the first week of January, the Christmas Market is full of Christmas cheer and the whole mediaeval Old Town gets in the spirit of the biggest celebration of the year. Restaurants and cafés have a special atmosphere during the darkest time of the year, often offering a Christmas menu.
