EKKM -gallery is a contemporary art centre right next to the Linnahall. The EKKM also has a bar-café. The beautiful garden terrace is a nice place to rest your feet with a refreshing drink. The location is optimal for ferry passengers and best of all, the exhibitions are completely free to visit!
Eesti Kaasaegse Kunsti Muuseum aka EKKM is located right next to the Linnahall and Kultuuri Katel, a short walk from Tallinn A Terminal.
There is also a cosy café and terrace on the ground floor of the gallery.
Interesting exhibitions in a rugged surrounding
RThe building where the EKKM is located may not immediately remind you of a contemporary art museum and its architecture is far from the modern style. The exhibition spaces are housed in an old, somewhat run-down tower-like building.
On the roof is a figure of a house made from a crate, which many of you may have spotted on your way to or from the port. You wouldn’t immediately guess that it houses a museum of contemporary art. The first thing you see on entering is the museum’s cosy café, which leads you into the exhibition space itself. The exhibitions are built on three floors and even on the roof of the building.
EKKM had ongoing exhibitions you can find from the gallery’s website.
Neljä näyttelyä vuodessa
The EKKM is open from April to December. At the beginning of the year, the museum takes a break and plans for the coming season. There are about four exhibitions per season, so for the regular traveller to Tallinn, there’s something new to see on every trip.
The museum is easy to visit and free admission further lowers the bar for spontaneous visits. So it’s definitely worth taking advantage of this free cultural and artistic experience!
