Katharinenthal Kohvik is a classic café right on the edge of Kadriorg Park. The historic café is a great place to enjoy a coffee or a snack after a walk in the park. Katharinenthal is located right next to the swan pond and from its windows or terrace you can admire the scenery and watch people pass by.
The café bakes and prepares all products on site in the kitchen. There are colourful macaron pastries in a variety of flavours, Brita cake, Pavlova, cardamom and cinnamon pie, chocolate cake and all sorts of delicacies that will make your mouth water. The savoury selection includes a variety of pies, quiches and sandwiches. All pastries, cakes and pies can also be bought to take away.
The absolute best thing about Katharinenthal is its location. Next door is the magnificent Kadriorg Palace and the huge park that surrounds it, with over a thousand rose plantings, water fountains, ponds and a canal bordering the palace. The café’s windows and terrace overlook the Swan Pond, a popular picnic and meeting place in summer. In winter, too, the park’s surroundings are crowded with outdoor enthusiasts and when the frosts deepen and the Swan Pond freezes over, a skating rink is built in the pond. In summer, the café terrace at least doubles the number of seats in an otherwise compact café. The Katharinenthal terrace is by far the best coffee terrace in the Kadriorg district.
Nearby you’ll also find KUMU and smaller museums dedicated to Estonian art history, as well as a children’s playground with a variety of carousels and miniature roller coasters for the little ones. Kathareninthal is well worth a visit, for example after a visit to KUMU, for a piece of cake and a glass of sparkling wine, or even a full day of strolling around the park and visiting the museums. For the romanticist, Kathareninthal is the ideal setting, with its historic surroundings that are perfect for getting into the atmosphere.
The park’s ancient trees, the beautiful wooden houses in the neighbourhood and the cultural offerings of the area provide things to do and see in winter and summer. Of course, in the summer, Kathareninthal is particularly beautiful, with the city’s gardeners at their best and the whole park full of colourful plantings and people enjoying life. A visit to the Katharinenthal café during a walk in the park is a very Tallinn experience.
